Perfect Spaghetti Sauce

I strive to have the family that turns their noses up at jarred spaghetti sauce, so I’ve searched far and wide for the perfect spaghetti sauce to finally come across one I’ve come to find suitable. With a little bit of tweaking, I made it my own, and it’s so simple to make too!

Ingredients

  • 1 small onion diced
  • 5 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 28oz cans of peeled whole tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 6oz can tomato paste
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 3/4 tsp dried basil

Directions

  1. Heat olive oil in a medium sized pot over medium heat. Saute onion and garlic until translucent.
  2. Stir in whole tomatoes, sugar, salt, and bay leaf. Cover pot, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 90 minutes.
  3. Stir in the tomato paste, pepper, and dried basil and simmer for another 30 minutes. (If cooking meatballs, add them during this stage of cooking as well).

Meatballs

This is a very basic, but tremendously flavorful meatball recipe. I’ve come across a few that were take it and leave it throughout the years. This one is pretty perfect as well, like the above mentioned sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1lb lean ground beef
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp dried parsley
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 egg beaten

Directions

  1. In a large bowl combined all ingredients and mix together.
  2. Form large meatballs. Should make about twelve.
  3. Simmer in spaghetti sauce for 30 minutes.
